Eggs Movie – A Short Irish Film
Turning your writing into a short independent movie can be easier than you think. A little organization and your movie is completed for viewing. There are actually movies that are five or ten minutes long. For that length of time, you may use up about 10-20 pages of typewritten screenwriting. Filmmaking can be extensive, but you can also get the basics rather quickly. Screenwriting software can help get the job done very quickly.
Your short story can be made into a movie that can be shown either on the internet or sold on a DVD at an indie movie website. With very little budget, your short movie can bring in a constant stream of revenue to you, just by having your movie hosted as an online Indie Movie. Independent movies don’t have to be submitted to the MPAA for rating unless the filmmaker chooses to.
The only equipment you’ll need is a camcorder (not your webcam) and computer with movie making software. A short movie is almost like a video clip, but the difference is that a short movie has a definite beginning and ending by the end of the recording. These short movies can also be submitted to Film Festivals. If your film gets chosen for an award, that would mean more exposure for your literary, artistic, filmmaking and production talents.
Organization of the entire short movie is imperative: if you really don’t have a clue, why not go to film school or take a free filmmaking course? Without having a degree in filmmaking, your short film can still get a professional appearance. If your audience likes it, you will get noticed.
You would want to copyright your literary work if it’s going to be a short indie movie. All of that can be done online now, with a digital application. If you don’t copyright your work, it will be very difficult to prove that a piece of literary art belongs exclusively to you, and if someone steals it, you won’t get a penny of their proceeds.
Last but not least, you will have to categorize your movie. Deciding the accurate genre is the first thing to do, and deciding who your expectant audience will be is the second consideration. Even if your short movie is a comedy, it may not be viewed as such in other countries. Sometimes different cultures have different views on what is considered to be funny. What’s funny in one culture may be offensive in another culture. Always check a country’s ‘funny-thermometer’ if you plan to distribute your movie with foreign language voice-overs.
