Did you notice that I’ve optimized this post with the keyword “internet writing”? Maybe, maybe not. How many times have you read an optimized blog post only to feel that it missed something? It takes practice to be able to insert keywords into your writing so that it reads in an interesting way.

However, this is a skill worth developing. A well optimized post will get people to your blog, articles, and how-to pages. Good writing on top of that will get them to come back.

Good Internet Writing Has a Voice

Bad internet writing looks like it could have been written by a robot. There’s no personality, no life. But good writing is one that shows the writer’s personality. You don’t need to write in the first person to achieve this either. It could be in the second or third person.

What’s really important is that the writing reads in a conversational tone of voice when writing online and this applies to articles, web pages, how-to’s, and blog posts. If people wanted to read an encyclopedia entry they’d go to the library for information. When people search on the internet they are looking for something that is both informative and also entertaining.

So when writing for the internet, remember to follow the rules of good SEO. However, don’t forget to breathe life into your writing by letting your own unique voice shine through. Even the most informative internet writing should also be entertaining and a joy to read. Then when you work to build traffic to your page, people will want to stay.

College professor is the #3 Job on Money's Top 50 2009 List

If you’re just interested in financial compensation, the top 5 jobs by pay are Anesthesiologist (median income $292,000), Obstetrician, (median income $222,000) Psychiatrist (median income $177,000), Sales Director (median income $140,000), and Attorney (median income $115,000).

There was also a category for the least stressful jobs – and these jobs also paid fairly well. The least stressful careers were considered to be Education Training Consultant (median income of $77,800), Physical Therapist (median income of $74,300), College Professor (median income of $70,400), Software Developer (median income of $79,400), and Technical Writer (median income of $67,400).

So the picture above is of my hubby’s desk at night at our old home. Everything glowing brightly, each component harmoniously humming as we would slumber, all night every night they sing their song and greedily suck every ounce of electricity they can. No, the computer does not get shut down for weeks even months at a time. Neither do any of the extra components and doodads that are attached to the desk. Everything is plugged into power strips, as recommended to help reduce your electric bill and conserve energy, but they rarely get shut off. Chargers silently sit plugged into the wall lonely without their mates. Lights are left on even when the numerous large windows in our apartment are pouring daylight into the room.

I am not writing this in order to publicly pick on my husband, he does try. He uses public transportation instead of driving our gas guzzling SUV the mere 10 miles into NYC. He always makes sure we have a full load of dishes before using the dishwasher and that we air dry instead of using the heated dry. And there are many more ways that he helps but, as of right now, where his electronics are concerned he is not doing so hot. And when I was thinking about this subject, I thought about all of our efforts we take to try and save energy but, I was immediately distracted by the behemoth of a PC sitting 10 feet away from me humming in my ear. And I realized that no matter how much we talk about changing our habits and even take measures to make it easier it doesn’t make a difference until you put it into action. By taking simple steps like, using Compact Fluorescent Bulbs, taking shorter showers, unplugging appliances when not in use, and turning off lights when leaving a room we can not only reduce our energy costs but also help the environment. And it is these changes that will make difference in the world around us.

Here are a few more tips that will save money and energy. Now I think it’s time to shut down that computer.
